Nothing ground-breaking tonight, just a fun little idea that emerged title-first into the world.
Miss Information
Miss Information is an RPG set in an American High School.
The character classes include:
- Drama Queen
- Cheerleader
- Jock
- Outsider
- Stoner
- Over-Achiever
Collectible items include Cell Phones, Ipods, Cars, Scooters, Brand Name Clothes, Internet Access, Keys to the Lake Cabin and of course, Money and Credit Cards.
I see this game as targeting older players who want to play with the high school experience, exorcise demons, relive old glories, in which case add controlled substances and condoms to the list. It is more much Heathers and Dazed and Confused than Saved by the Bell. It’s definitely teens or older.
The Skill Tree includes:
- Googling
- Gossiping
- Charisma
- Backstabbing
- Making Out
- 1st
- 2nd
- 3rd
- Home
- Extra Innings
- Studying
- Cheating
Consequences and Complications
It is, at its core, a game of information manipulation and social networks. Your power is a function of the size and quality of your social network (see the Promiscuous Mage ), and limited by having to track all the lies and withheld information that holds your network together.
You build dossiers on your enemies (and your friends), there is an interface for tracking lies told, and who knows what (to the best of your knowledge). In some ways, it becomes a sociological soduku, filling in your grids with non-conflicting lies, half-truths and omissions.
The plot is multi-pathed, with events spiraling out of control based on your growing web of lies. Each lies requires another lie to sell it. Ideally, each major plot branch terminates in some completely over-the-top denouement; Nuclear War, Alien Invasion, Becoming President, Consecutive Life Sentences.
The game ends with a cheesy “Where Are They Now” text roll:
Jimmy-Sue resigned the Presidency of the United States to marry Biff, the Star Quarterback.
Biff runs a successful chain of Used Car Emporiums, a front for Mafia money laundering operations.
Jimmy-Sue does charity fundraising and Tequila-Nyquil shooters.
